Disney Genie Services coming to Disneyland on December 8th

After seeing the success of the Disney Genie and Genie Plus services, it has been officially announced that this new way of going to the parks will be making its way to Disneyland and Disney’s California Adventure theme park on December 8th 2021. On the heels of the announcement of magic bands coming to Disneyland, it is fitting that this follows suit. Not saying that this is going to be a fan favorite with how the reaction has been for the change at Disney World but, it makes for the company to make the move.

Disneyland guests will now have access to new features that mirror Walt Disney World’s. Some of those features will include:

·      A personalized itinerary creator and tip board for all your favorite attractions wait times and dining options.

·      Access to the Lightening Lane for $20 per ticket per day, which allow you to select the next available arrival window for select attractions.

·      Access to purchase individual Lightening Lane entrance selections.

The Individual Lightening Lane selections include Radiator Springs Racers, WEB SLINGERS: A Spider-Man Adventure, and Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. This is an a la carte style of pricing for these attractions. The pricing will vary based on the certain attraction and the date and can only be purchase one at a time for a total of two times through out that day. So I would recommend if you are wanting to ride all three, pick one to rope drop and purchase your first Lightening Lane pass in the morning and then when you have scanned into the second ride (your first Lightening Lane selection) then purchase that last ride. Over in Walt Disney World the Lightening Lane selections can book up fast, so make sure you get there early so you have the best chance of doing the rides that you are most looking forward to.

Overall, I do not agree with this move by Disney. Walt Disney World and Disneyland have two different audiences. Even though everyone who goes is a Disney fan, Disneyland’s attendance is very heavily made up of Annual Passholders and I feel that Disney Genie is made for the first-time goers who need help with planning their vacation. We will see how this all plays out but for the time being this is how it will be.
