Reimagined Toontown coming to Disneyland in 2023

Since 1993 Toontown has delighted guests of all ages that come to Disneyland, but now it is being reimagined. Recently Josh D’Amaro was at IAAPA (International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions) and announced that in addition to adding Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway, they will be building on the legacy of Mickey’s Toontown by creating new experiences for today’s families with young children. This reimagined land will have grassy play areas for everyone to unplug and enjoy their time with each other. Adding these spacious green areas into Mickey’s Toontown will offer more play activities and attractions than ever before. According to Disney parks blog, these new experiences will let children play, slide, spin, splash, touch and listen all while having fun.

The first land that was announced for this reimagining is CenTOONial Park. This will be the first space that guests will see when they are entering Toontown. Disney Parks Blog stated that this natural space will be anchored by two interactive play experiences. At the center of CenTOONial Park will be a fountain, designed for play, which will also become a center icon for Mickey’s Toontown. At its base, water tables will invite guests to play with the water and have a sensory experience. At night, the fountain will be brought to life in a unique spectacle. A nearby dreaming tree will be inspired by the tree a young Walt Disney would daydream under in his hometown. Sculpted tree roots will provide an opportunity for children to play, crawl and explore, and undulating topography will offer rolling hills and a place to sit and dream.

Unfortunately, Toontown will be closing in March of 2022 for the reimaging, but from what was announced at IAAPA, it sounds like it will be an amazing transformation of that space in the parks and we are so excited to see it in person when it is completed in 2023.
